The University of Alberta Mixed Chorus (UAMC) is one of the University of Alberta's oldest non-athletic student groups and is proud to have been a leading organization in Edmonton’s cultural community for over 65 years.
Each season, its members come together to share their love of music with a repertoire ranging from Baroque to Broadway. This diverse group performs two major concerts per year as well as numerous informal and contract concerts throughout the season. The UAMC has been under the direction of Dr. Robert de Frece for over 25 years and continues to create beautiful music in the spirit of the students who founded it over 60 years ago.
During the 2008 season, the Mixed Chorus was proud to participate in the University’s Centenary celebrations. Together with the UofA Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, Choral St-Jean, and Augustana Choir, the UAMC joined in two major Choir of Choirs performances at Edmonton’s Winspear Centre and Calgary’s Jack Singer Hall. The UAMC commissioned a new work entitled Quaecumque Vera: Northern Lights to celebrate the University’s history. The piece premiered at our 64th annual spring concert on April 5th, 2008. This was one of thirteen projects to receive major funding from the University of Alberta’s Centenary Committee.
